2006 Program
Fifth Annual Meeting of the Society for Molecular Imaging
Preliminary Program
The annual meeting environment will encompass diverse
molecular imaging topics related to basic and clinical aspects of biology, chemistry,
genomics, technical advancements and industrial applications. Make plans to
join us as we explore the present status and future of cellular and molecular
studies in the context of the whole organism.

Accreditation
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance
with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing
Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Radiological Society
of North America (RSNA), the Society of Nuclear Medicine and the Society for
Molecular Imaging. The RSNA is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing
medical education for physicians.
Special Workshop on Friday, September 1
Young Molecular Imaging Investigators and the NCI/NIH
A workshop is planned (including a mock study section) for Friday afternoon
September 1 in conjunction with the Annual Meeting, to provide young molecular
imaging investigators with the information necessary to understand the NIH grant
application and review process and to effectively interact with NCI/NIH Program
and Review Staff. Graduate students, post-docs, and investigators within the
first 2 years of their academic appointment may attend by registering in advance
through the online registration system. There is no extra cost associated with
participation, and the SMI will provide lunch for all participants. Participants
are encouraged to submit questions and topics
of interest anonymously through a specially created NCI/NIH web page. This
will ensure that the topics of greatest importance to you will be addressed
during the session.
Who Should Attend?
The intended audience consists of researchers, clinical practitioners, trainees
and other professionals in radiology, neuroradiology, neuroscience, oncology,
nuclear medicine, cardiology, medical physics, cell biology, molecular biology,
genetics, immunology and medical imaging equipment companies.
Educational Objectives
Following this meeting, attendees will be able to:
- Explain methods of target identification and probe
development for disease targets.
- Describe current state-of-the-art of cancer detection
and outcome measures.
- Describe current state-of-the-art detection and outcome
measures of neurodegenerative disorders.
- Compare data from various molecular imaging modalities
that demonstrate significant advantages of different imaging strategies.
- Evaluate the potential of new imaging methods to detect
disease early in its course and recognize when there is the potential for
improved outcome.
- Describe the new imaging paradigms in drug discovery
and development.
- Recommend imaging and therapy combinations.
- Appraise imaging in the development of cellular and
gene therapy.
